West Clear Creek

I just had a really fun weekend with my scouts and our MIA crew. My scouts and I went camping over night up at upper Sycamore Creek by Mt. Ord. One of our boy forgot his sleeping bag so we gave him a extra towel we had. The boys we sleeping in the open on a tarp which was all fine until I pointed out a scorpion cruising around then they all started to freak out. I gave them permission to relocate the scorpion to a more appropriate place. I didn't realize they would throw it down a little cliff by where we were at. We met up with the rest of the mutual Saturday morning and one of the leaders cabins in Strawberry. We were suppose to go to Fossil Creek and go swimming. The bottom parking lot and entrance were suppose to be closed so we were going to hike in from the top, 3 miles each way. When we got there we figured out that the whole Fossil creek area was closed. Plan B. On to West Clear creek, I love it there. After our nice little hike in, almost vertical down, climbing over rock, boulders, and logs, we then got to go swimming in nice high mountain stream water. Can you say chilly. As soon as we reached the bottom one of my scouts was lucky enough to step on a wasp nest, needless to say they don't like that sort of thing. After he totally freaked out screaming like a little girl, I grabbed him and told him to start running away from the nest. A couple hundred yards later the wasps gave up chase. I pulled the stingers out of him and me,11 for Zach and 3 for me, treated the stings with cortisone cream, and let him chill for about a half hour. Then it was time to play. The group could believe that I was actually swimming not just jumping in and then right back out of the water. Then they really freaked when I put my swim goggles on and started to dive and look around on the bottom. After a few hours of fun we figured it was time to head back up the trail. I love the woods and my scouts.

Sounds like your excellent outdoor skills got some good use :0)
On a side note-I'd also be flippin out if I saw a scorpion scuttling around and I was supposed to sleep out there on the ground... I REALLY hate scorpions!
